The discharge end of the exhaust stack of the jet en gine is flattened and contoured to provide an elon gated, curved, channel-shaped discharge opening, and the jet engine is mounted so that the discharge end of the exhaust stack is disposed adjacent to and a short distance above the leading edge of the open channel for discharging all of the exhaust gases in a flat stream parallel with the channel surface to provide a lift ef fect.
